Safety And Compliance FAQs

What is the MIOSHA CET Program and how does Melching participate?

The MIOSHA Consultation Education and Training Division is a voluntary program that helps employers strengthen their safety programs. Melching partners directly with CET consultants for hazard surveys, program evaluations, and annual training reviews. This ongoing collaboration ensures our safety program remains current, compliant, and continuously improving.

How often are Melching employees trained or refreshed on safety standards?

All asbestos trained employees complete required annual eight-hour refreshers. Melching also conducts companywide safety meetings, weekly toolbox talks, daily tailgate briefings, and ongoing site inspections. Certifications such as HAZWOPER, confined space, HazCom, and respiratory protection are maintained and refreshed as required by state and federal standards.

What safety certifications does Melching hold?

Melching’s environmental and demolition teams maintain:

  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER
  • Michigan Asbestos Contractor License
  • Asbestos Supervisor and Worker certifications
  • Lead Abatement and Lead Awareness training
  • Confined Space Competent Person training
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30
  • Respiratory Protection and Fit Testing
  • DOT hazardous materials handling
  • First Aid CPR AED certification
  • Heavy equipment operator training
  • All training follows MIOSHA CET and OSHA requirements.

What safety programs and procedures does Melching implement on every job?

Melching applies a comprehensive set of safety procedures on every project to ensure consistent protection, compliance, and control. These include:

  • Pre job safety planning and site specific health plans
  • Daily tailgate talks and hazard briefings
  • Air monitoring and exposure assessments
  • Lockout tagout procedures for all utilities and equipment
  • Fall protection planning for elevated work areas
  • Confined space identification and permitting
  • Waste manifesting and chain of custody documentation
  • Environmental sampling and regulatory reporting
  • Stop work authority for every team member

What makes Melching’s safety program unique?

Melching combines big project capability with small team accountability. Every worker, from operator to foreman, has full stop work authority. Our self performing crews are trained to recognize hazards early and address them immediately. Because we handle demolition and environmental work in house, communication is tighter, risks are lower, and safety controls are applied consistently across all phases of work.

Does Melching provide documentation for compliance?

Yes. Melching provides site specific safety plans, air monitoring reports, waste manifests, chain of custody documentation, certification and training records, asbestos and lead abatement documentation, and EGLE or EPA reporting as required. Clients receive full compliance documentation from start to finish.

What is Melching’s safety goal on every job?

Zero Injuries. One hundred percent compliance. Everyone home safe at the end of the day.
