PCB & HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

Hazardous materials require precision. We bring plenty.

PCBs, mercury, chemical residues, and other hazardous materials require strict handling, containment, and disposal under federal and state regulations. Older industrial buildings, manufacturing facilities, power systems, and commercial structures often contain PCB ballasts, mercury devices, contaminated caulking, or oils that must be properly removed before demolition or redevelopment.

Melching provides full service hazardous materials identification, removal, packaging, transport, and certified disposal. Our environmental team is trained to manage hazardous materials safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with EPA, EGLE, MIOSHA, and DOT standards.

Because we self perform both environmental and demolition work, we integrate hazardous materials management directly into the project sequence—reducing risk, avoiding delays, and protecting your liability from start to finish.

PCB and Hazardous Materials FAQs

What are PCBs and where are they commonly found?

PCBs are toxic industrial chemicals found in older light ballasts, transformers, caulking, paints, and electrical components. Many pre-1980 structures still contain PCB materials that require controlled removal.

Is Melching certified to remove hazardous materials?

Yes. Our crews hold 40 Hour HAZWOPER training, hazardous material handling certification, and state licensing for asbestos and lead. Hazardous waste work follows EPA and DOT regulations.

Do PCB materials need special disposal?

Yes. PCB containing items must be packaged, labeled, transported, and disposed of at EPA-permitted facilities. Melching handles the entire process, including manifests and documentation.

Can hazardous materials be removed during an active operation?

Yes. We perform removal in operating facilities using containment systems, negative air pressure, and restricted access to keep workers and occupants safe.

Does hazardous material removal affect my demolition schedule?

When integrated properly, it prevents delays. Because Melching self performs both abatement and demolition, we coordinate the sequence to keep your project on track.
