Real Jobs. Real Risk. Real Results.
Anyone can talk about “capability.” Our projects show it.
From shuttered paper mills and contaminated waterfronts to sprawling hospital campuses and long-running industrial plants, Melching has spent more than 30 years clearing the way for what’s next across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. We handle the kind of demolition, decommissioning, and environmental work where safety, compliance, and schedule all matter at the same time and failure is not an option.
Whether you’re a general contractor, plant manager, developer, or municipality, this is where you see what we’ve actually done not just what we say we can do.
The Work We’re Trusted With
- Industrial plant decommissioning – factories, power plants, paper mills, chemical and process facilities
- Healthcare and institutional – hospitals, schools, universities, and campus-style environments
- Commercial and municipal – office buildings, retail centers, public facilities, and blight removal
- Brownfields and contaminated sites – properties with asbestos, lead, PCBs, tanks, and impacted soils
- Utility and infrastructure sites – substations, utility plants, water and wastewater facilities, stacks, and support structures
- If the site is complex, regulated, or high-risk, that’s where we do our best work.

Project FAQs
What types of demolition and environmental projects does Melching take on?
We focus on industrial, commercial, municipal, and institutional projects that require demolition, decommissioning, and environmental remediation. That includes factories, power plants, paper mills, hospitals, schools, utility sites, and brownfield properties across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Where does Melching perform demolition and remediation projects?
Our core service area is Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. For larger or specialized projects, we can mobilize to surrounding Midwest regions.
Can Melching handle both demolition and environmental remediation on the same project?
Yes. That’s our core model. We self-perform demolition, asbestos and lead abatement, PCB and mercury cleanup, soil remediation, underground tank removal, and site prep, so you’re not juggling multiple contractors.
Can you work around active operations or occupied buildings?
Yes. Many of our projects are in operating plants, hospitals, schools, and office environments. We use containment, negative air, controlled access, and close coordination with your team to keep operations safe and running.
What information do you need to review a potential project?
Helpful items include site location, building or facility use, drawings (if available), environmental reports, utility information, project goals, and target timelines. A site walk helps confirm conditions and scope.
Does Melching only take large projects?
We specialize in mid-to-large-scale demolition, decommissioning, and remediation projects—especially those that are complex, regulated, or high-risk. If you’re not sure whether your project is the right fit, we’re always willing to take a look.
How long do typical demolition and decommissioning projects take?
Timelines vary by size, complexity, and environmental requirements. Smaller selective demolition jobs may take days or weeks; full plant decommissioning and brownfield remediation can take months or longer. After reviewing your site, we provide a realistic schedule and critical-path plan.
What kind of documentation will I receive at the end of a project?
Depending on the scope, you can expect environmental reports, waste manifests, recycling and diversion summaries, closure reports, safety documentation, and photo records—everything needed for your internal teams and regulators.
READY TO CLEAR THE WAY?
Melching is the Midwest’s trusted demolition and environmental contractor. From teardown to cleanup, we handle every phase safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
