Grand Haven, MI — Melching is pleased to announce that remediation efforts and demolition activities have begun at the property located at 233 Washington Avenue in downtown Grand Haven in preparation for a new five-story hotel development. This project supports the ongoing revitalization of Grand Haven’s downtown core and marks a significant step forward in transforming the site into a modern hospitality destination.

The former office building at the site — most recently occupied by various tenants — will be carefully taken down as part of environmental remediation and site preparation ahead of construction of a new Residence Inn by Marriott hotel. The planned development will feature approximately 128 extended-stay guestrooms and amenities designed to support both leisure and business travelers visiting the Lakeshore region.

“We’re excited to partner with the City of Grand Haven and the project’s developers to responsibly redevelop this key downtown property,” said Sarah Powers, Director of Business Development of Melching. “Our work ensures the site is safe, compliant with all environmental standards, and ready for a vibrant new use that will benefit the local community and economy.”

The proposed hotel has received the necessary zoning approvals from the City of Grand Haven and is expected to support local tourism while creating jobs during construction and ongoing operations. Construction is anticipated to continue through 2027, aligning with the broader vision for downtown growth and investment.
