Well Melching has done it again. The crew that demoed the blue department was very impressive in their talents, work ethics and professionalism. I am sure this was not their biggest job but I would guess it was one of the dirtiest. This job was very difficult right from the beginning and continued to be difficult right until the end. The Melching crew made it look easy. It is very enjoyable for people like myself when a company like Melching shows up for a job and are as qualified as the crew was that demolished the blue department. Please find this letter as a summary of our experience working with Melching Demolition on the 2 phase demolition and environmental remediation of the Mt. Pleasant Center site. The City of Mt. Pleasant acquired the abandoned Mt. Pleasant Center from the State of Michigan. The 300+ acre site had been a State-operated mental facility with 20 buildings (~450,000 square feet), 8000’ of tunnels, water tower, roads and steam, and electric plant. The City of Mt. Pleasant wanted all of these facilities removed to allow for the possible redevelopment of the site. This work was completed on time and the Contractor was very thoughtful concerning items of concern with the City, such as saving trees, making the site accessible for community events and trying to keep kids and urban adventure seekers out of the site. I would have no apprehensions working with Melching again on a demolition project and would look forward to its timely and successful conclusion.

We found working with Melching to be quite productive. Melching demolition completed an industrial site demolition project for my corporation. The project included clearing of chemicals from buildings, tanks and piping, asbestos surveys and abatement, demolition of over 20 buildings and final site cleanup. Melching effectively managed subcontractors to gather and dispose of the chemicals as needed. Our corporate oversight required extensive documentation of the project along with regular meetings with an environmental oversight company. The project was completed safely, within the required timeframe, and under budget. Melching provided suggestions for alternate approaches to our original scope of work and implementing these alternatives brought the project in well under budget.
